First, you need your ex to call back(or return your text or IM), right?
Believe it or not, there ARE "magic" words you can use. These will literally compel a response, almost as if they've cast a spell.
Before I tell you what they are, I have to tell you what NOT to say. There are two messages that you must never send. Trust me, they won't work.
- The PLEAD: "Jim, please, please call me back. I've called four times already. We HAVE to talk."
- The EMERGENCY: "Jennifer, this is an emergency. Get back to me as soon as you get this."
I hope you can see how these put you in an awful position.
So how do you get your ex to return your message?
Try the following instead. In a friendly tone, say something along the following lines:
"Hi Jim. I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate what you did for me. Call me. I want to thank you in person."
Jim will NOT be able to resist! This works nearly every time. Why?
Let us consider what Jim is thinking.
- What did I do?
- What does she appreciate?
You see, what you've just done is you've combined curiosity and self-interest, two very powerful forces. Together - they work magic!
In addition, Jim feels good, because the message that you've sent is a positive one.
Now obviously, before you call, you need to know what it was that Jim did that you appreciate.
It doesn't have to be anything big... but it does need to be plausible.
